After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least.
After there was trouble on the home front, and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again.
So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.
The Beer Can does it again Once again, Skippy, the 2 million year old beer can saves us poor monkeys from death and destruction.As usual, Mr. Alanson writes a funny, yet semi- serious sci-fi novel about duty, honor and how to screw with a bunch of aliens that think they are smarter than human beings, just because they have been around the universe longer. I mean come on making a worm hole act like an apple slicer, even Skippy thought that was crazy, But what whatever works is fair in love and interstellar warfare,Now Craig, quit angling for a movie deal, like you hinted in you last 2 epilogues. With a few problems indicating that the beta site was there for our use only we find a pristine earth like planet untouched by any hands but it's right there where the elder long distance wormhole comes out. We decide to go back and get colonists when we discover Gateway, the wormhole to earth is blockaded, and the Maxolhx are planning upon sending a battle fleet to figure out why no one comes back from earth. We figure we need to steal a bigger better warship. We do. Then we figure out that stealing is counter productive to stopping the Maxolhx. So we figure out how to stop the fleet. Well now we figure it'll take another year for the Maxolhx to figure that their fleet is missing. In the meantime we've got some tension worked up between the Maxolhx and the above, however you spell it. We've got the two of those apex races at each other's throat so not so interested in us. Besides that we discover that there might be a boogeyman out there that had the elders a bit worried. We find a barrier around the galaxy using elder technology that prevents wormhole travel. Either outside in or inside out. Except for all the misspelled words and dropped words, I found the story fascinating. Still with Joe and the beercan. I read some of the repartee that made me giggle to my wife, and she thought it was funny too.
